Description

What is BGA Rework Station?

A BGA Rework Station, sometimes referred to as a BGA soldering or desoldering station, is professional repair gear built to solder, take out and fix BGA (Ball Grid Array) chips alongside other high-density packaged parts including QFN, CSP and LGA. Many technicians also call it a BGA machine station or rework soldering station, and it sees heavy use for phone repair and general circuit board service work.

BGA chips have spherical contact pins arranged right underneath the chip body, so those pins are completely hidden from sight. Regular soldering irons or simple handheld hot air guns heat unevenly. This often leads to bent PCB boards, lifted pads or burnt chips. That's why a BGA rework station matters. It delivers accurate temperature regulation and part alignment, making it essential work equipment for motherboard repairs - for mobiles, PCs, game consoles, servers and more. It's also widely used to fix faulty boards coming off SMT production lines.

Core Functions & How It Works

This machine cannot fix internal damage inside the chip itself. What it does is swap out chips on the PCB, to sort out soldering issues that pop up during manufacturing or daily use. These common issues include cold joints, false soldering, solder bridging, voids and short circuits.

Core Functional Components Technology & Implementation Principle
3-Zone Independent Heating System Equipped with upper, local lower hot air and large infrared bottom preheating zones. Uniform heating prevents PCB warping, a core benefit of a solid bga machine station.
Precision Optical Alignment System Built‑in CCD vision module overlays dual images to align chip solder balls with PCB pads, achieving ±0.01mm accuracy, ideal for fine phone repair.
Multi-Segment Temperature Profile Control Closed-loop thermocouples run 4-phase reflow curve (preheat, soak, reflow, cool), with precision up to ±1°C, the mark of a good rework soldering station.
Programmable Cooling Mechanism Auto cross-flow fan activates after reflow to cool boards safely and avoid solder joint damage from thermal shock.

Three Core Steps of Standard Operation

Running this bga machine station follows these standard steps:

1.Desoldering: Clamp the PCB board, use laser red dot to locate the chip center. Load your desoldering temperature profile and heat until the solder balls melt. The vacuum nozzle safely lifts the bad chip, either manually or automatically.

2.Mounting: Clean PCB pads and add flux. For new chips, adjust X-Y axes with optical alignment to perfectly match chip pins to PCB pads and lower the placement head. This precision is key for detailed phone repair.

3.Soldering: Launch the soldering program. The machine reflows following preset temperature curves (leaded solder ~183°C, lead-free ~217°C). Once cooled, soldering is complete. This is the core working flow for any solid rework soldering station.
