Basic Phone Failures and Solutions:
Section 1: Boot Failure Analysis
1,Small boot current (about 5-15mA) – The main reason is that the CPU is not functioning.
- The clock circuit is malfunctioning (13M and 32.768K) – Check voltage, AFC, and frequency.
- The clock crystal is damaged – Replace the crystal.
- The clock crystal generates a signal, but it doesn't reach the CPU – Check the connection between the crystal output and the CPU.
- The clock crystal power supply is abnormal – Check the power supply or the crystal's power supply circuit.
- The reset voltage is abnormal – The reset circuit may not be working properly (check the power supply circuit or a separate reset tube).
- The CPU power supply is faulty – Usually caused by the power IC not outputting VCC voltage or the power supply circuit not functioning.
- The CPU itself is damaged – Replace the CPU.
2,Start-up current is around 30-60mA – The logic circuit is malfunctioning.
- The font circuit isn't functioning.
- Power supply issues.
- Reset issues (power-on reset or reset circuit failure).
- Chip selection problems.
- Data lines or address lines are malfunctioning.
- Font damage (internal storage or font library damage).
- CPU damage (internal CPU breakage or controller failure, leading to dead current of 80-150mA in MOBLINK series CPUs).
- The font program is corrupted.
3,High boot current (200-600mA) – Caused by a power supply load leak leading to excessive start-up current.
- To repair such faults, it's necessary to understand the circuit and the motherboard's components and power supply mode. Large capacitors are typically near these components, and the positive terminals of these capacitors are connected to the power supply. Check the reverse resistance of the circuit to determine if there's a power supply leak.
4,Large current when powered on – This refers to a power supply short-circuit between the motherboard's positive and negative terminals, typically caused by damage to battery-powered components such as the power amplifier circuit, power supply circuit, power supply tube, charging circuit, or small components connected to the ground of the power line.
Section 2: Unable to Shut Down
If the phone can power on and function normally but cannot be turned off, the issue is usually in the shutdown circuit:
- Component damage in the shutdown circuit.
- CPU damage.
- The shutdown circuit of the motherboard is disconnected (power supply to the CPU or the shutdown circuit is disrupted).
- Power IC damage.
Section 3: Automatic Start
Automatic booting can occur in two ways: high-level boot and low-level boot.
- High-level boot: One end of the high-level boot line is forced into a high state. The fault is usually caused by the power IC, boot circuit, or tail plug circuit.
- Low-level boot: The boot line is pulled to a low state, often caused by faults in the boot circuit, power circuit, or tail plug circuit (since some phones have a tail plug boot circuit). Pay attention to the varistor in the boot circuit.
Agere chipset automatic power-on failure: Agere chipset phones may exhibit a timing alarm fault. The RTC_ALARM signal is connected to the VRTC voltage via a resistor over 300K. If the voltage is abnormal, the RTC_ALARM signal goes low, and the 32.768KHz clock circuit stops working. This causes the button to fail since the keyboard scan circuit uses the 32.768KHz sleep clock. Replacing the backup battery resolves the issue.
Section 4: Automatic Shutdown
If the phone powers on normally but shuts down automatically:
- The phone does not maintain the signal, leading to power supply instability and shutdown due to the inability to maintain a stable output voltage.
