The production capacity of complete products in the fields of communications and home appliances expanded rapidly, leading to the demand for domestic electronic components. Rapid expansion, domestic component manufacturers in some high-tech products, such as MLCC, precision connectors, multi-layer circuit boards and flexible boards and other products, lack of competitiveness, it is difficult to cope with the domestic complete machine, such as the demand for mobile phones, such as popular communication products, Therefore, the import of these products is growing rapidly.

At the same time, because China has been in the WTO for some time and the tariff level has been declining, these factors have contributed to the rapid growth of imports of electronic components. In terms of exports, foreign-invested enterprises in China continue to maintain their main export status. Some domestic enterprises continue to maintain advantages in the production and sales of some low-end and mid-range products, such as electro-acoustic devices. Therefore, the export volume and export value of electronic components are also Continued to increase. But overall, imports are growing faster than exports, and the trade deficit is expanding rapidly.

1. Imported sinks.

In terms of import use, five types of products, such as hybrid integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, capacitors, electrical connector components, and micro-motors, are listed in the top five of the import value. The smallest amount of imports is piezoelectric ceramic devices, which is only $48.09 million.

From the year-on-year growth rate of import-use foreign exchange, the import value of all major components continued to grow rapidly, and the growth rate was all above double digits. The lowest micro-motors also grew by 10.77%.

From the perspective of the amount and growth rate of imported sinks, several types of products such as multi-layer ceramic capacitors, four or more circuit boards, and other connectors are on the one hand, and on the other hand, they are growing rapidly. They are all products with high technical content, and the domestic supporting capacity is insufficient. It is necessary to invest more in research and development in these areas, and the state should also support it accordingly.

2. Export earnings

In terms of the amount of foreign exchange earned by exports, printed circuit boards, electro-acoustic devices, electrical connectors, micro-motors, and capacitors are the top five products that contribute the most. The lowest export value is piezoelectric ceramic devices, which is only $31.15 million.

From the perspective of various small products, the four-layer and below circuit boards are 2.657 billion US dollars, the four-layer and above circuit boards are 1.163 billion US dollars, the transformers are 956 million US dollars, and the other electric motors are 945 million US dollars. They are the products with the largest export value and other exports. Larger are inductors, connectors, speakers, plugs and sockets. It can be seen that the main export of electronic components in China is low-tech, small-sized, general-purpose component products.

It can be seen that the representative small-scale products with large export value and high growth rate in China are mainly circuit boards, connectors, electro-acoustic devices, etc. There are also many high-precision products, but the main export enterprises are generally foreign-invested enterprises. It is only the production and assembly site, and a considerable part of the products are imported into China. Domestic-funded enterprises can compete in the international market with low-cost and large-volume quantities only in low-tech electroacoustic devices.

Import growth rate exceeds exports

The total trade volume grew rapidly and the trade deficit expanded rapidly.

The export value of Chinese electronic components continued to increase in 2018. From the perspective of imports, as China's electronics manufacturing industry continues to maintain rapid development, the demand for electronic components continues to increase, resulting in a large increase in the import of electronic components, especially high-tech products that domestic enterprises are difficult to get involved. Many of large numbers of imported electronic components are produced by foreign-invested enterprises in China. In addition, after China's accession to the WTO, the reduction of tariff levels also promoted the increase in imports, making some foreign products more competitive in price, further squeezing the living space of domestic enterprises.

Imports and exports of electronic components have increased at the same time, but imported electronic components have exceeded exports in terms of total volume and growth rate, resulting in a continued increase in the deficit. Moreover, from the current situation, the trend of the increasing deficit will continue in the future, until domestic enterprises become competitive in some high-tech products.
